The ticker symbol is a short two, three or four letter code that is a unique identifier of a company for traders. Some sites will allow data to be accessed via typing either the company name or the ticker symbol. Many sites offer a facility for looking up the ticker symbol by inputting the company name.
It is important to know the ticker symbol of companies you might be interested in investing in.
