22. Regional newspapers and specialist magazines

There is a range of other publications that can supplement the basics you get from national daily papers. In some instances these may be of only limited use over and above the basic newspaper coverage. Examples are:

Others, such as Fortune and Forbes, can be interesting although, like Business Week, the focus is more on news and features of use to general business readers, rather than specifically for investors. Of the publications listed, Barrons probably provides the best all round coverage, although UK subscribers will probably receive the publication some days after it is available in the US.

Regional newspapers can be a useful source of information on companies located in particularly area. Newspapers like the LA Times, New York Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Miami Herald and others all have web editions. Technology buffs can access news about Silicon Valley via the San Jose Mercury News.

Links to all of the web sites are available via Newslink (www.newslink.org). The American Journalism Review, an independent media source, maintains this site. Many newspaper and magazine sites have free searchable archives.
