Care is required if you are bequeathed a portfolio in someone's will. You cannot simply set about applying your own strategy to it willy-nilly. You need to bear in mind that
On the first point, you should consult a probate lawyer or accountant with special expertise in this field before making any radical moves.
On the second point, consider whether it is worth holding on to the long-term winners, even if they do not fit into your personal investment strategy. These may include core holdings that are paying significant dividends - perhaps even enough to live off. This is an arrangement you should not disrupt without first giving careful thought to the costs, and to whether you really do have better uses for the money.
But show no mercy to the losers in the portfolio. There will never be a better moment than when you first take control of the portfolio. The longer you leave it, the more responsible you will feel for the bad choices made by the previous owner, and the more difficult you will find it to sell.
