22. Conclusion

In this course, you have been introduced to some of the techniques most commonly used by technical analysts.

In each case you should have learned:

- how the data for the chart is calculated
- what buy and sell signals the chart is supposed to give
- what volume is associated with the move

Remember that the 'rules' of technical analysis are not scientific. It's as much an art as a science. If you simply follow the formal rules without considering what else is going on in the market, you will trip up.

Where do you go from here? Well, if this course has piqued your interest, the best thing to do is have a look at the leading financial websites to see what charting facilities they offer. Often, when you're looking at company data, you can bring up charts that give you an instant snapshot.

For more sophisticated analysis, where you have full control over what charts you see, where you can combine many indicators on a single chart, and where you can draw in your own trend lines, check out the websites of the software companies that produce specialised charting packages.

You have now completed the course. To test your knowledge, take the Assessment test.
